Sources & attribution
Every font on DaFontFonts is the work of its designers and is distributed under its own open licence. This page documents where the catalog comes from and under which licences it is redistributed.
Sources
- Google Fonts (1,966 families): the open-source collection maintained at github.com/google/fonts. Licence and designer metadata come from each family's METADATA file in that repository. Style and mood classifications derive from Google Fonts' public tag data.
- Fontsource (117 additional families): the open-font registry at fontsource.org, which publishes machine-readable SPDX licence identifiers per font. Web-optimized font files for the Google Fonts portion of the catalog are packaged by the Fontsource project.
- Font Squirrel (147 families): fonts from fontsquirrel.com whose own licence pages we verified to show the SIL OFL, Apache 2.0, CC0, or a public-domain dedication. Fonts under Font Squirrel's "Freeware" label or custom foundry EULAs are excluded, because those do not grant redistribution.
- Fontlibrary (745 families): open-licence fonts from fontlibrary.org, restricted to families whose font pages declare the SIL OFL, Apache 2.0, MIT, CC0, or a public-domain dedication. GPL and Creative Commons attribution licences are excluded from our catalog.
- Fontesk (1,265 families): fonts indexed by fontesk.com, accepted only where the downloaded package itself contains an OFL, Apache 2.0, MIT, CC0, or public-domain licence file. We do not rely on the index's own labels: during ingestion we found fonts tagged there as OFL whose packaged readme restricted them to personal use, and those were rejected.
- Use & Modify and open repositories (248 families): libre typefaces catalogued at usemodify.com and published in public repositories, each verified against the licence file shipped in its own source package.
- Independent open-source foundries (74 families): typefaces from Velvetyne, Collletttivo, Tunera Type Foundry, and The League of Moveable Type, each verified against the licence file in its own repository.
Fonts sourced from Font Squirrel, Fontlibrary, and the independent foundries are downloadable directly from DaFontFonts, always zipped together with their licence text, as the licences require.

Designers
Designer attribution appears on every font page. Where a licence carries conditions (for example, the OFL's rule that redistributed font files keep their licence text), DaFontFonts serves fonts with their licences intact and links the full licence text from every font page.
