How it works

  1. 01 Type your message, nickname, or channel name in the box.
  2. 02 Pick a style: fraktur and double-struck for nicknames, small caps for channel names.
  3. 03 Copy it and paste it into Discord. It works without any bot or Nitro.

Where styled text works on Discord

Discord is one of the friendliest platforms for Unicode fonts. Styled text works in messages, server nicknames, channel and category names, server names, role names, and your About Me. The one place it does not work is your actual username: since Discord moved to unique usernames, the handle field only accepts lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. Your display name and per-server nicknames still accept Unicode, which is where most people put the gothic and cursive styles anyway.

Discord already has some formatting built in

Before reaching for Unicode, know that Discord supports Markdown in messages: bold with double asterisks, italic with single asterisks, monospace with backticks, and strikethrough with double tildes. Markdown only works in messages though. It does not work in nicknames, channel names, or About Me, and that is exactly where Unicode styles earn their keep. Fraktur and double-struck nicknames, small-caps channel names, and tiny-text About Me lines are all common because Markdown cannot produce them.

A note on zalgo and heavy glitch text

Zalgo works by stacking combining marks on each letter. Discord renders mild zalgo fine in messages, but heavy stacks can overlap adjacent lines, and servers with strict AutoMod rules sometimes flag or delete messages full of combining characters. We keep the glitch style here at a readable intensity; the glitch text generator has the full range if you want to push it. If you want a permanent glitch or horror look for a server logo or banner instead, grab a real display font from our pixel fonts or halloween fonts categories, all verified free for commercial use.

Questions

Why does the font disappear when I paste it into my Discord username?

Discord usernames (the unique handle) only allow lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores, so styled characters are rejected. Paste into your display name or a server nickname instead. Both accept Unicode.

Can I use these fonts in channel names?

Yes. Channel names accept Unicode, and small caps or fullwidth styles are popular for section headers. Note that Discord lowercases channel names where the character has a lowercase form, so all-caps tricks may not survive.

Why do some letters show as boxes for my friends?

Their device is missing glyphs for that Unicode block, which happens mostly on older Android versions and Windows 7. Fullwidth, small caps, and monospace are the safest styles across devices.

Can a server ban me for using glitch text?

Discord itself does not prohibit Unicode styles, but individual servers set their own rules and AutoMod filters. Heavy zalgo is the style most often filtered because it can disrupt chat layout. Mild intensity is usually fine.
