Underlining without a U button
Almost no social platform lets you underline anything. Underline is formatting, formatting gets stripped, and even apps with bold and italic markdown (Discord, WhatsApp) mostly skip underline. The workaround is the Unicode combining low line, a mark that attaches beneath whatever character precedes it. This tool inserts one after every character in your text, so each letter carries its own segment of underline as part of the string itself. Paste it anywhere and the line comes along, because to the platform it is just more text.
How it renders
Quality depends on the destination's fonts. On most modern systems the segments connect into a continuous line; on some, small gaps show between letters or the line sits lower under some characters than others. Preview on the platform you care about before publishing. Where underlined text works
Instagram bios and captions, TikTok profiles, X posts and display names, Facebook, YouTube comments, and Discord messages all accept it. One caution about meaning: on the web, underlined text signals a link. An underlined phrase in a post can read as a broken link and frustrate people who tap it, so underline for emphasis works best in obvious non-link contexts like bios and headings.

Yes, in bios, captions, and comments on both, which is useful since neither app offers any native underline. It will not work in usernames, where only plain characters are allowed.
Why does the underline stay attached wherever I paste it?
Because it is not formatting. Each letter is followed by a Unicode combining low line character, so the underline is literally part of the text string, and platforms pass it through untouched.
Why does my underline have small gaps between letters?
Each character carries its own piece of line, and whether the pieces join depends on the destination's font. Most modern devices connect them; some fonts leave hairline gaps. There is no fix beyond previewing where you post.
Will people think my underlined text is a link?
Some will, since underline is the web's strongest link signal. Use it in bios and headings where a link would not be expected, and avoid underlining phrases inside posts that people might try to tap.
