Strikethrough Text Generator
Type your text and get it crossed out, ready to paste. The tool attaches a Unicode combining line to every character, so the strike travels with the text itself and survives pasting into bios, captions, and apps with no formatting buttons.
Every style below rewrites as you type. Tap Copy to take one.
How it works
- 01 Enter the text you want to cross out.
- 02 Choose strikethrough, slash-through, or underline.
- 03 Copy the struck text and paste it into your bio or post.
A line that lives inside the text
Word processors draw strikethrough as formatting on top of text, and that formatting dies the moment you paste into a plain text field. This tool works differently. Unicode defines combining characters, marks that attach to whatever character precedes them, and among them are the combining long stroke overlay, the combining solidus (a slash), and the combining low line. Insert one after every letter and each character carries its own piece of the line. The strike is part of the string, so no platform can strip it.
Three lines, three moods
Strikethrough is the classic horizontal cross-out, the "scratch that" effect people use for jokes and corrections in bios and posts. Slashthrough runs a diagonal through each letter for a more redacted, glitchy feel; it borders on the territory of the glitch text generator, which stacks combining marks by the dozen instead of one per letter. The combining underline gets its own dedicated page at the underline text generator.
Platform behavior
Struck text pastes into Instagram bios and captions, X posts, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube comments. Two platforms deserve a note. Discord and Reddit already support native strikethrough with tildes in their markdown, which renders more cleanly there; use the Unicode version on those platforms only where markdown does not reach, like usernames and channel names that accept it. Rendering quality varies more than with substitute alphabets: on some fonts the combining line sits slightly high, low, or broken between letters, so preview before you commit.
Combining marks render most predictably over evenly spaced characters, which is one reason struck monospace text looks tidy. If you like that fixed-width look for real projects, browse our monospace fonts, verified free for commercial use.

Questions
Does strikethrough text work on Instagram?
Yes, in bios, captions, and comments, since Instagram offers no native strikethrough. On Discord and Reddit you can also just wrap text in double tildes for cleaner native strikethrough in messages.
Why does the line stay on the text wherever I paste it?
Because the line is made of Unicode combining characters attached after each letter, part of the text itself rather than formatting applied over it. Platforms pass it through like any other characters.
Why does the line look broken or uneven on some devices?
Each letter carries its own segment of line, and how the segments join depends on the device's font. Most modern systems connect them smoothly; some fonts leave small gaps or offset the line.
Does strikethrough change what my text says to search engines?
The letters themselves stay normal, but every combining mark is an extra character mixed into the string, so exact-match searching and copying can behave oddly. Keep struck text decorative.
