About Broadway

Broadway was designed by Morris Fuller Benton and released by American Type Founders at the end of the 1920s. Microsoft describes how it captures the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties: very thick strokes on the left side of letters like B and O, hairline strokes on the right, and sharp angles where they meet, the way Art Deco stylised natural forms.

It is pure jazz-age glamour, made for theatre posters, cocktail menus, party invitations and anything with a 1920s or Great Gatsby theme. Because it is so decorative, it works best for a few words at large sizes.

Where Broadway works best

  • 1920s and Gatsby-themed events
  • Theatre and cinema posters
  • Cocktail bars and menus
  • Retro signage
