About Gilroy

Gilroy is a geometric sans serif by Bulgarian designer Radomir Tinkov. It comes in 10 weights from Thin to Heavy, each with a matching italic, and supports Cyrillic alongside Latin. Tinkov released two of those weights, Light and ExtraBold, for free personal use, which is how most people first meet the font.

The shapes are built on circles and straight lines but softened just enough to feel approachable: round bowls, a single-storey g, open counters and a moderate x-height. That balance made Gilroy a favourite for app interfaces, startup branding and presentation decks, where it looks modern without feeling cold. The heavy weights work as display type, while Regular and Medium hold up well in short UI text.

Where Gilroy works best

  • Startup and tech branding

  • Packaging and social graphics

Free alternatives to Gilroy

Open-licence fonts with a comparable feel, every one verified free for commercial use and downloadable from DaFontFonts.

Outfit is the closest free match in spirit: clean geometric shapes, a single-storey feel in the heavy weights and a full range from Thin to Black, free for commercial use.

Plus Jakarta Sans has Gilroy's modern, slightly softened geometry and reads very well in interfaces. A safe pick for app and SaaS branding.

Urbanist is built on simple geometric forms like Gilroy and offers nine weights with italics, so you can copy a Gilroy type system almost one to one.

Manrope blends geometric and grotesque shapes, giving the same friendly tech feel. Its variable weight axis makes it easy to fine-tune.

Poppins is rounder and a little wider than Gilroy, but it delivers the same friendly geometric tone and has huge language support.

Gilroy is a trademark of its owner. DaFontFonts does not host or distribute the Gilroy font files; download and licence links go to the official source.
