About Trajan

Carol Twombly designed Trajan for Adobe in 1989, basing it on the inscription at the base of Trajan's Column in Rome, carved around 113 AD. Like the original, it has capitals only, with small capitals in place of lowercase. The letters have the elegant proportions and sharp, chiselled serifs of classical Roman lettering.

Trajan became famous in Hollywood: so many dramatic and historical films used it on their posters that it earned the nickname of the movie poster font. It is also popular for book covers, universities, law firms and anything that wants to look timeless and authoritative.
